Football Season
During football season I have a hectic and exciting schedule. Finding time to watch film, lift weights, and practice is difficult. This doesn't including going to class and getting all of my class work done. One nice thing about my schedule during football season is that each week is the similar.
Monday is the day of the week that I get off. The NCAA requires to have one day off a week.
Tuesday mornings there is a special teams meeting bright and early. Lucky for my position group, the receivers, we would have our meeting directly following the special teams meeting. Tuesday is also the first weights session of the week. The lifting times vary on when people on the team have class. At 2:40 walk through starts to begin practice. Tuesday practice is the only full padded practice the team has each week. Full pads consists of shoulder pads, helmets, and football pants. Also the longest practice of the week.
Wednesday is a simpler day, position meet and practice. During the position meeting we go over Tuesday's practice. Next would be practice, which is just shells on Wednesday. Shells is helmet and shoulder pads. Typically practice is a little shorter than Tuesday but could be longer if the practice isn't going well.
Thursday is the second weights session and the times vary on when people have classes. Position meeting right after weights and we watch Wednesday's practice. Thursday is the last practice to prepare and finalize the game plan. It is another shells practice and the only practice where we go over all of the special teams.
Friday is the day before the game and walk through and film day. Position groups watch film in meetings and then another special teams meeting right before walk through. We only wear helmets for the walk through and is the last review before the game.
Saturday is game day. We have team meal and then start preparing for the game. As a receiver we all go out with the quarterbacks to run routes and try and get extra practice for the game. I enjoy this time to start getting settled in to make plays during the game.
Sunday is all about film and the last weights session of the week. We come in as a team and all watch offense, defense, and special teams impact plays from the game. After those we break into position groups and go over the game film. After film there is a short walk through to go over a few plays to clean some stuff up and then a recovery lift.
Almost every single week is structured this way so there is rarely any surprises. If there is ever a change in schedule it is communicated. Along with all of the football meetings, weights, and practice there is classes and class work and that is why we have study hall hours. If you handle your business in the class room then you do not have to attend study hall.
To be successful you have to put in the work and that is why football requires so much, but I believe it makes me better on and off the field.
I think its nice that you are required to have a day off. You're body needs to recover!
